War play

Seeing these images I can’t help but think of the tens of thousands of real children around the world who are right now fighting in real wars (see www.childsoldiersglobalreport.org). It’s too bad no one involved in this “Young Warriors” ad campaign thought about it when they gave it the green light.

Am I being over-sensitive or should Matchbox be ashamed of itself?

  1. Even beyond the child soldiers across the world, the ads are disturbing in and of themselves. I used to play with GI Joes and other toys, but now I seen the danger in make believe violence, etc.
Yet, think of GI Joe commericials from back then, they were always “fun” fighting and everything, these ads look so serious, draw a much greater parallel to the obvious realities of war and make it so much more obvious, to me, why I want my kids to stay far away from these sorts of ‘toys’
