Margo
- The Catnap
With all of the anti-French sentiment swirling about in the US these
days, it's nice to see that the Frenchies have produced some delicious music
to kick back at all of the super-patriots. Eat it, this is some tasty music.
I always wanted a girl who would speak French to me. It's so hot. I'll settle for The Catnap. Although vaguely sung in English, and at times, slipping to French, Melanie Massons's elfishly cute voice brings
reminiscent thoughts of the chiquie from mum and Stina Nordenstam. I can't really
make out what she's saying most of the time, but hey, she sounds hot, sooooo...yeah, I'm down with that. As far as I can tell, she makes a lot of references to her pussycat. It dissapeared in the night. Among other things. The kitty cat seems to be a theme here, but again, I don't know
French, sooooo...
I'm just not stuck on the voice though. The smooth electronic thing
blended
with more organic intruments makes for a soothing backdrop. Think
maybe
Figurine, except less sugary; Fennesz, but less random. Dense
instrumentation and crisp beats make the head nod "yeah." Not too
dissimilar to mum, if that's your thing. And, it's my thing, so I plan on
keeping this a staple in my new music stash.
I wish I knew French. I wish Margo played in more places than just
France. But, I have The Catnap to tide me over, and that's not such a bad thing.
