Ric Hordinski
ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ - When I Consider How My Light is Spent
ÊÊÊÊÊ
When I Consider How My
Light Is Spent is not an album by Monk, which isusually Ric
Hordinski's alter ego, nor does it have anything to do with
that hilarious detective series, which is also called Monk. Instead,
it's an unobtrusive little solo album by talented guitarist and
songwriter.
Hordinski is more of a
master musician, than your stereotypical singer/songwriter, which is
why a goodly share of this album's contents is made up of instrumental
tracks. These range from the difficult-to-describe "Ping," which finds
Hordinski providing various "guitars, loops and treatments," to
the starkly contrastingand beatific "Sabina," which is a much quieter
acoustic guitar work. In some cases, such as on "Lemon Grass," the
equally esteemed Phil Keaggy joins Hordinskion guitar to further
up the musical genius quotient.
Lyrics are applied
sparingly here, but Hordinski's worded songs are
nevertheless quitememorable in many places. "River," for
instance, offers a healthyreminder to take breaks away from the cares
of daily life now and again, just toenjoy living, whereas "If Angels"
celebrates the discovery of aromantic life partner. "I've been a rich
man/Because I've known real love."
