Writ On Water return after long hiatus
The last full-length album released by California-based shoegazers Writ On Water was so long ago, recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Madonna's "This Used To Be My Playground" topped the charts the same year Blonde Vinyl released the critically acclaimed "Sylph."
With that in mind, I expected the material on "A Wingless King" to be as dated as the haircuts in the band's press kit photos from 1992. Only a few listens in, it became obvious that it's more than just a trip down memory lane for a long forgotten band. Dreamy at times and noisy at others with a sound in the same ballpark as bands like The Cure, Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine, more on Writ On Water and the end of their 16-year wait between full-length records (there was an EP released in 2000) can be found out their recently launched Web site.
