Ship of Fools to commemorate a decade online
From Biblical curse generators and reprints of unfortunate bulletin mishaps to anonymous worshiper reports and updates on the latest gadgets of the evangelical sub-culture, Ship of Fools has been politely poking fun at the church for a decade. On April 1, the British Web site will be marking its 10-year anniversary -- the magazine of "Christian unrest" first appeared in print format in the '70s -- with loads of new content for the avid readers and newbies to devour. As long-time supporters of the site (you may recall an event we hosted with the editors in Philadelphia around the time Bush was up for re-election). Here's what's up, according to an e-mail issued from the site Monday: 1. Celebrating a decade as a dotcom – join us as we revisit 10 years of faith, folly and being just a tad disruptive. 2. Launching our new look – it's our first major site redesign since the Reformation. 3. Vote for the greatest Christian LP cover of all time and eternity – from Let Me Touch Him to Swing That Gospel Axe. 4. Hit our shiny new chat café – join shipmates worldwide for real-time conversation with absolutely no discernible direction. 5. Tackling the Teflon Televangelists – exasperated US journalist Mark Pinsky ask why the faithful remain happy to be fleeced. 6. Introducing: John Calvin's Newsround – Unconditional reflection on debatable issues – with you setting the agenda. 7. Blasphemy – let's get our own house (of God) in order – why Steve Tomkins swears we've got it all wrong. 8. Using humour to bring political change – exclusive Q&A with Dr Tony Campolo. 9. Dry up your dreams with Sid G. Hedges – discover how cotton reels can prevent nocturnal emissions. 10. Available at last – our early voyages in print – donate to the Ship and download the best of the original Ship of Fools magazine (print version, 1970s). posted [03.25.08]
