Neil Halstead signs with Jack Johnson label

Pitchfork Media and Exclaim.ca both reported last week that Mojave 3 and Slowdive frontman Neil Halstead is taking up residence on fellow surfer/singer-songwriter Jack Johnson's record label.

Halstead, who released the magnificent Sleeping on Roads in 2002 for 4AD, will begin a tour later this month with Johnson and label-mates Rogue Wave.

The good news is plans for a new new record on Brushfire to be released in August. The bad news is a set of tour dates that will put Halstead in front of beer-soaked, $40-plus a ticket crowds in places like the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, N.J.

Details about the new record are limited at this point and news of the signing hasn't even made the Brushfire Web site, but fans have to already be hoping Johnson's frat-boy friendly radio rock doesn't cramp Halstead's style.
