Elvis Costello to host Sundance show

Rock legend Elvis Costello won't be taking over David Letterman's spot on the Tonight Show again any time soon, but he will get a chance to host his own program on Sundance, according to a news release.

The show, to be called "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with...", will be produced by fellow British pop star Sir Elton John and feature in-depth interviews with various celebrities.

"I'd rather hear about a bright secret, a deep love or a curiosity that might be otherwise obscured by fame," Costello said in a statement. "This is a wonderful opportunity to talk in complete thoughts about music, movies, art or even vaudeville, then frame it with unique and illustrative performances."

Added Sir John: "I thought it would be sensational to use his knowledge and intelligence to explore the artistry of musicians and other fascinating people involved in making great music, as well as true music aficionados."

Sundance's Web site didn't have a peep about the new program on Wednesday and there's still no official word on when the program will begin airing or appear on iTunes where those of us without the proper cable package end up watching the cable network's programming.

A portion of the show's proceeds will reportedly be going to a global AIDS relief fund.

A stalwart performer, Costello does have experience, though limited, hosting a talk show. In 2003, he filled as the "Tonight Show" host when David Letterman was recovering from a bout with shingles.
