Avett Brothers sign to Columbia
American/Columbia Records have signed The Avett Brothers, a North Carolina group who combine dozens of strands of musical DNA (rock, pop, classic country and more) into a unique form of American music. Their first album for Columbia, produced by Rick Rubin, will be released in 2009.
The Avett Brothers have nine previous independent releases under their belts, the most recent of which, The Second Gleam, came out in July.
Recorded acoustically, The Second Gleam EP has been garnering critical raves for its stripped down production. The NY Daily News declared the EP to have "melodies as pure and pretty as a crystalline stream," while Performing Songwriter called it "mesmerizing." USA Today recently highlighted the track "Murder In The City" in their weekly playlist calling it "charmingly spare." "Bella Donna," another track on the EP, was recently chosen as The Top Tune at the highly influential LA based radio station KCRW.
