The New Republic  has an intriguing behind-the-scenes piece  on Politico, the caffeinated Beltway newspaper that outpaced the Washington Post during the 2008 presidential campaign by taking the lead on stories about John McCain not knowing how many houses he owned, Barack Obama hanging out with Weather Underground founder Bill Ayers and Sarah Palin’s high-priced wardrobe.
