‘Downloaded’ Tells Ancient Internet History of Napster

Napster’s dramatic rise and court-ordered freefall feels like such a lifetime ago in Internet years it’s strange to be mentioning the pioneering file sharing technology as the subject of a documentary that instead of celebrating it’s 10th anniversary is prepping for release in 2013.

The trailer for the documentary, directed by Bill & Teds star Alex Winter, is sure to bring back memories for those of us who lived the story in college dorm rooms in the late ’90s from the opening sound of the dial up modem to the sound bites of pitchfork-in-hand musicians calling for the head of teenage inventor Shawn Fanning.
