Because he’s hilarious and has a real knack for social media, comedian Michael Ian Black launched a rather amusing campaign today to lobby for a job as Taco Bell spokesman. I don’t care for Taco Bell, but if anyone could get me to care about the fast food restaurant I haven’t eaten at since I was teenager, it’s Michael Ian Black. For more hilarity on this subject, check out @michaelianblack on Twitter and the hashtag #mibfortacobell.

Also, be sure to check out this killer campaign poster.

Say goodbye to viral, epic, fail and other words that have been overused to the point of becoming generally useless in the past year.

Overused to the point of no longer meaning anything words like viral, epic and fail made the 2011 edition of Lake Superior State University’s annual List of Words to Be Banished from the Queen’s English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness.

Not surprisingly, the phrase “just sayin’” also made the list, which is compiled based on nominations gathered from across North America.

Some of the entries are quite funny, like the submission for viral, an unavoidable term lately that describes a successful online video:

“This linguistic disease of a term must be quarantined,” Kuahmel Allah of Los Angeles wrote in his submission. “If one more thing goes viral, I’m buying a Hazmat suit and moving into a clean-room.”

And I especially love this comment about epic:

“Standards for using ‘epic’ are so low, even ‘awesome’ is embarrassed.” said Mike of Kettering, Ohio, whose submission came with no last name.

One of my favorite Thursday activities of late has been checking in on the Ouro Bros. never-ending tour.

If you’ve ever been in a band or hung around the indie music scene at all, you’ll be able to relate to, enjoy and laugh out loud at the Ouro Bros. The weekly comic is a collaboration of long-time Tangzine friend Jeremy Bentley and Jeff Burkholder. The above panel is one of my favorites so far.

A UK company called And Vinyly is offering people the chance to press their ashes in a vinyl recording of their own voice, their favourite tunes or their last will and testament. Minimalist audiophiles might want to go for the simple option of having no tunes or voiceover, and simply pressing the ashes into the vinyl to result in pops and crackles.
