'Gigli' cleans up 24th annual 'Razzies' SANTA MONICA, CA - The first thing you notice about witnessinga Razzie Awards ceremony in person, is that it's much closer to a theatrical production, than to a stereotypical TV trophy processional. In fact, it evenfeatures a regular cast of players, headed up by Razzie founder John Wilson, who gather annually to "perform" this beloved anti-award ceremony. But if you happen to enjoy laughing out loud about some of Hollywood's most embarrassing cinematic creations, this celebration of 2003's lowlights packed in many comedic highlights. In other words: It matters not who wins or loses, but how they flubbed up playing the game. With all the negative press that greeted J-Lo and Ben Affleck's "Gigli" disaster this past movie season, 2003 promised to be a particularly good year for bad movies. And if you were rooting for an across the board "Gigli" sweep -- in the same manner others pulled for "Lord of the Rings" at that "other" movie shindig -- you wouldn't have walked away disappointed. This one film alone, which was nominated a whopping nine times, took home Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Affleck), Worst Actress (Lopez), Worst Screen Couple(guess who), Worst Screenplay and Worst Director. The funniest "Gigli" moment came when director Martin Brest's award was announced with the introductorywords, "Let the clip speak for itself," after which Janet Jackson's Super Bowl breast-baring episode was shown on the video screen. Later, when the film's Worst Picture award was presented, a clip of Lopez was shown where she purrs, "It's turkey time. Gobble-gobble." Once again, this was a clip that perfectly spoke for itself. Other award presentations this morning (Yep, the show began at 10:30 AM!) included "The Cat-In-The-Hat" for Worst Excuse for an Actual Movie." Best quote from that particularpresentation: "Neither the cat nor the hat could be here to receive this award." Additionally,"Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" was selected as Worst Remake or Sequel, and Demi Moore won the Worst Supporting Actress award for her work in this misguided chick TV remake. And last, and probably least, Sylvester Stallone took home his 10th award for his quintuplet supporting actor work in "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, where he played five roles -- all badly. In fact, it was suggested at this year's event that Stallone may be up for a career underachievement award at next year's 25th anniversary show for his consistently inconsistent film work. His career has been a little rocky, so to speak, to say the least. In addition to playing five hilarious clips from the Worst Picture nominated films, and silly snippets for most of the award winners, this show also featured an audience participation number that reenacted dance steps incorporated into "From Justin 2 Kelly." As the crowd sang KC & The Sunshine Band's "That's The Way (I Like It)," four (willing?) volunteers "danced" along. All in all, this short hour of funny business added up to one memorable morning of good, mean cinematic fun.
