A film about a film about a film

Hearts of Dorkness is an in-progress documentary about the making and finishing of a film about a group of friends going to see Star Wars on opening night. The feature is called 5-25-77 and reminds me a lot of the look and feel of the short-lived TV show Freaks and Geeks in the clips contained in the trailer below.

Here’s the description from the website:

What does it really take to create and complete a motion picture outside of the Hollywood system? How does a writer/director in the 2000s make a feature-film without compromising his vision? Hearts of Dorkness is a living, documentary project–happening now–that is following Patrick Read Johnson across the country, looking to discover answers to these questions, and to share with audiences what they find. Hearts of Dorkness is a documentary in-the-making about the Making (and Finishing) of Patrick Read Johnson’s award-winning film independent film, 5-25-77.
