Growing up with a talkatively nostalgia-crazy father (“I tell you Matt, I was born a generation too late”) I learned to appreciate iconic civic architecture at a young age and lament any time something ugly was standing where something beautiful had once been.
A train ride to New York wasn’t just a trip to New York. It was a trip to where the old Penn Station used to be before they built “that thing” (Madison Street Garden/Penn Station underground) in its place.
